| Beschrijving | : | In 1975 werd aan het NLR een opdracht verleend door de RLD (Rijksluchtvaartdienst) om na te gaan hoe op een moderne wijze de navigatiebakens en landingshulpmiddelen voor de luchtvaart (VOR/DME/MKR/ILS) zouden kunnen worden gecontroleerd op hun goede werking. Een VOR (VHF-Omnidirectional Radio Range) geeft de piloot aan op welke radiaal hij zich bevindt t.o.v. het VOR-zendstation, een DME (Distance Measuring Equipment) informeert de piloot over zijn afstand tot het DME-station en het ILS (Instrument Landing System), in combinatie met de MKR (Marker), geleidt het vliegtuig langs het juiste vliegpad bij een landing. Het doel van de opdracht was om minder vlieguren te gaan maken met het meetvliegtuig van de RLD dat voor het uitvoeren van deze controles was toegerust. Om dit onderzoek te kunnen doen met zijn eigen researchvliegtuigen schafte het NLR een complete set state-of-the-art ontvangers aan met digitale output, zoals die ook door airliners gebruikt werden. In 1975 NLR was contracted by the RLD (National Aviation Authority) to examine how the navigation beacons and landing aids for aviation (VOR/DME/MKR/ILS) could be inspected for their proper functioning in a modern way aiming at a reduction of flying hours with the RLD flight inspection aircraft. A VOR (VHF-Omnidirectional Radio Range) informs the pilot on what radial he is positioned with respect to the VOR-station, a DME (Distance Measuring Equipment) provides the pilot with the distance from the DME-station and an ILS (Instrument Landing System), in combination with a MKR (Marker), is guiding the aircraft along the proper flight path during landing. In order to be able to conduct this research with its own research aircraft, NLR purchased a complete set of state-of-the-art receivers with digital output identical to those used by airliners.
